Miro’s 3-Day Journey
Jeju Island is a volcanic island located off the southern coast of South Korea. It is the largest island in South Korea and is mainly surrounded by the East China Sea and the Korea Strait. The most common and convenient way to travel from Seoul to Jeju Island is by air.
After several rides in Seoul along the Han River, I decided to fly to Jeju Island and ride its most popular cycling route — the Jeju Fantasy Bike Path. Most cyclists complete the route in four days, depending on their speed and number of stops.
I cycled the Jeju Fantasy Bike Path in three days. I started the ride immediately after landing at Jeju Airport. Nearby, there’s a bike rental shop called BIKETRIP, where you can rent all types of bicycles. It’s recommended to make a reservation online in advance.
The Jeju Fantasy Bike Path is a scenic cycling route that circles the entire island, covering about 240 kilometers. It takes riders along coastal roads with stunning views of cliffs, beaches, volcanic landscapes, and fishing villages. The path is well-marked and includes certification booths, where cyclists can stamp their official cycling passports.

I recommend riding counterclockwise, as this way you cycle right along the coast. The cycling infrastructure is excellent, allowing you to ride the entire route in a relaxed way and fully enjoy the experience. Along the path, there are plenty of cafés and convenience stores, so there’s no need to pack food or water — meaning you can keep your bike light and carry minimal luggage.
I didn’t plan exact distances for each day in advance. Instead, I decided how far to ride as I went, without any pressure or stress about where to sleep. The island offers a huge number of accommodation options, so finding a place for the night was never a problem.

Jeju Island is home to three famous waterfalls, often referred to as the “Three Main Waterfalls of Jeju,” along with several lesser-known ones. Due to the limited number of days I had planned for the ride, I wasn’t able to stop and see them all.
One of the specialties of the island is Jeju squid, known for its fresh and sweet flavor. Along the route, there are fishing villages where you can see squid being dried.

Along the route, there are countless options for exploration and stops, depending on how many days you’ve planned for the ride.
Dol Hareubang, or “stone grandfathers,” are traditional volcanic stone statues found throughout Jeju. They are iconic symbols of the island and are believed to offer protection and fertility. You’ll see them standing at village entrances, tourist sites, and even in souvenir shops.

During the ride, you can meet many cyclists from all over the world who have come to ride this route.

For me, the highlight of the trip was cycling along the sea — feeling the breeze carrying the scent of the ocean, riding under a blue sky, passing beautiful beaches, and being surrounded by Jeju’s one-of-a-kind natural beauty. Not to mention the coffee breaks — the smell of coffee and the blue sea go perfectly together.

The Jeju Fantasy Bike Path is definitely a must for cyclists who want to take a break from high-adrenaline adventures and the uncertainty of road touring. It’s perfect for those looking to enjoy easy, relaxed pedaling with minimal climbs, while soaking in the views, nature, local food, and the calming seaside atmosphere.
